Communicable Disease follow-up
Montana Law requires the Health Department to follow up on any disease occurrence that is of public health concern. The county sanitarian is sometimes also involved with these, especially if food or water consumption seems to be related.
School Services
We provide the following services free of charge to the county schools:
Vision, Scoliosis and Dental Screening
Puberty Education
Staff In services on requested topics
Lice checks
Immunization assessments
Maternal Child Health Services (MCH)
Developmental screenings of infants, toddlers and preschoolers
Home visits for pregnant women and infants/children
Breastfeeding help/troubleshooting (2 Certified Lactation Counselors)
Montana Cancer Control Program (MCCP)
Pays for the following services for income-eligible men and women without insurance or Medicare/Medicaid coverage:
** pap smears, mammograms and clinical breast exams for women ages 30-64
**colorectal cancer screening for men and women ages 50-64

Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program (MTUPP) & Clean Indoor Air Act Coordinator

Provides Quit Kits for smokers/chewers; available for presentations and prevention projects; inquire at the office for more information about services or joining one of the coalitions
WIC (USDA Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children)
Rona Matheson, LPN
Provides food benefits and nutrition evaluation and education for Infants, Children 1-4 years old, and Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have delivered a baby in the past 5 months. Breastfeeding support, medical/dental/social services referrals as needed.
Emergency Planning
Steve Osgood
Planning for large scale public health emergencies, such as a severe influenza occurrence world-wide (“pandemic flu”); involvement with the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).
