The South Toole County Fire Department was formed in 1954 and was, as it still is, operated in conjunction with the Shelby Fire Department. It serves the 1300 square miles that encompasses the southern half of Toole County, Montana. This includes the communities of Ethridge, Shelby, Dunkirk, Devon, Galata and Ledger.
As well as fighting fires, the crew responds to every personal injury accident. Being separate from the ambulance crew, the firefighters use their quick response unit and do all the extrication of persons that may be trapped in an accident.
